Liz Afif
Born: Bronx, NY to Argentine parents.
Raised in Scarsdale. Afif studied under Phyllis Feldinger, Joan Busing, and Jeanette Stockton, between 1986 and 1992.
In 1992 she left NY to study in Philadelphia at Moore College of Art, under Mary Ann Krutsick, Steve Sherman, Vivian Wolovitz,
Frank Hyder, Mary Judge, and Wayne Morris. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Moore in 1996. Afif attended
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2002. At PAFA she studied under Sidney
Goodman, Irving Petlin, Bruce Samuelson, Kathy Bradford, Vincent Desiderio and Kate Moran. Notable exhibitions include
The Oval Room at the Argentine Embassy in Washington DC, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Fleisher Art Memorial,
Paley and Levy Galleries, The Philadelphia Sketch Club, and Perkins Art Center. In 2004 Liz Afif opened Afif Gallery
in Philadelphia to exhibit and promote the work of her contemporaries, focusing on figurative art that plays on
the line of abstraction or expressionism and abstract art that has a soul. She moved back to NY in 2006 and
opened Square Inch Gallery in 2007, creating a gallery in a residential space that focuses on art sized for residential
and spaces, and encourages collectors to cover every "square inch" of their walls with art.
